Veggie Baby

Happy Day Before Friday!

We are back from Florida and finally done with laundry, restocking the refrigerator, and getting back to our busy routine. 

While away, it seems my garden exploded a bit.  There is a lot of chard and the arugula finally took off.  I see a lot of arugula salads and pizzas with arugula in our future.  DSC01744

I feel strongly about exposing kids to a good variety of healthy real foods from the beginning.  If your child sees you eat colorful fruits and veggies, and gets repeated exposure to them, they will eat and enjoy them as well.  If your child sees you eating cheetos and soda, that is what he or she will learn to eat. 

For Ava, we prepare whatever veggie we are having that night, and chop or puree the rest for her.  Here is some broccoli after being pureed.

To make it less time consuming, we make a bit extra and freeze it in this handy little portioner by Beaba.  (We got ours at Williams Sonoma, but I’ve also seen it at Buy Buy Baby.  Love this!  It’s silicone, so it’s easy to “pop” out one frozen portion and put it back in the freezer.

Ava eats pretty much every vegetable, with her favorites being butternut squash and avocado.   She also thinks raw carrots are great teething helpers.

I’m off to my favorite exercise class of the week, Bootcamp. 

Next week I’m going to challenge myself to try a different/new class at the gym everyday.  Want to join me?
