Weekend Re-cap and New Workout Day 1

A rainy and cold Monday here in Scottsdale.  Perfect for hot yoga! 

We had a busy weekend and somehow it seems it was gone with the blink of an eye.  Friday night was the usual pizza/appetizers and vino.

  I got up Saturday morning and had a glorious 5 mile run.  It was a perfect morning for running, temperatures in the mid to high 50’s and a bit cloudy.  It was one of those days where the playlist is going and you just feel like you could go forever.

Inside was more goat cheese, tomato, mushrooms and nutritional yeast. nom, nom. 

Dinner Saturday night was cooking at our friends’ house.  We  always have fun on our “cooking nights” and it gets our creative juices flowing with trying some new recipes.  I used some of the arugula overflowing in my garden to make a salad that I had seen that morning on the CBS Early Show.  From the same segment, I also made a chocolate cake with peanut butter glaze.  Renee made a delicious flank steak with cilantro garlic sauce.  We don’t have red meat very often at our house and I realized the reason why.  It never turns out as good as when I have it made by someone else!  This was cooked to perfection and had so much flavor!  We also had taters and roasted asparagus with parmesan.  A little red vino and this was  much better than going to a fancy steak house!   I took a few pictures with my cell phone but they didn’t turn out. 

Seafood Sunday was fresh northwestern cod served in a tomato and fennel sauce.  It was a modified Cooking Light recipe that turned out really tasty.

New/Different workout class everyday this week challenge:

I decided to do a little challenge this week to not only mix up my routine, but to better utilize my fancy gym membership.  My challenge is to do a new or different class everyday this week. 

Day 1-Monday:  Hot power flow yoga.  Technically this isn’t at my gym, it’s at the yoga studio I go to, but it is a new class.  A few weeks ago, they started offering a power flow class in addition to the regular hot yoga classes.  This class was only 60 minutes instead of the usual 75 minute classes this studio offers.  I thought the shorter class would be appealing since I sometimes find myself watching the clock  being tired the last few minutes of the 75 minute classes.  The verdict:  I didn’t care for it.  It was missing some of my favorite poses and I don’t feel like my legs go the same stretched and strong feeling they normally do.  I’m super glad I tried it, but I think I will stick with their traditional 75 minute class.

  1. We need to talk about where you do yoga...I cannot afford your gym so that's out nor do I want to pay for yoga studio yoga classes. Well, i could, but most of them i find a waste of $15 drop in since I have been teaching for 10+ yrs and have high expectations :)

    As a teacher 60 mins is really short. You're right in feeling a little rushed..that's what happens but yeah with a bad/boring teacher the last 15 of a 75m class can be boring...we can chat about it!

    BUT I did do a Jackie Warner video today for a 40 minute at home while J was napping. I thought it was going to be easy but it literally had me begging for it to stop! lol

  3. I've never seen an "egg puff" before -- it looks awesome!!!! We're only going to be in AZ for 3 days this go round -- but we'll be back soon [hopefully in october] and we should for sure go out for a drink then!! Thanks for the wine bar recommendation!! I have no clue what part we'll be in -- but we will have a car.

  7. I love Eggland's Best Eggs! They truly taste better than any other egg I've found. Although they are more expensive, I think that taste and flavor outweigh the cost. Just stumbled across your blog--love it as I'm a new mom and an RD, too (6 mo old boy). We should stay in touch!
